Beady Eye creating process when Liam was in Italy for Pretty Green

Monday, January 24, 2011

LONDON - Gem Archer has said how the creative process been with Beady Eye.
He told Mojo: "Liam's almost gone off like a firework. He's there every step of the way, sometimes with too many ideas. With 'Bring The Light' Liam had been doing some Pretty Green stuff in Italy and all of a sudden I got a load of texts saying, 'I want to do a Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, that kind of feel, and I want to do it right.' And then it just happened immediately. Once we got into the recording he said 'I want some girl backing singers, like an Ike and Tina Turner record.' I was saying, I can't get my head around it but it sounds great. So I think his head's just exploded. Especially since he's doing his Pretty Green thing, buying up film rights and things."
Beady Eye are finalizing dates for an upcoming United States tour (album released in North America via Dangerbird Records, 1 March).
Liam: "We're fired up, not because we thought we'd show everyone it could happen without you know who [Noel], we're fired up because we're doing music. I’ll be honest, when the gigs come round with Beady Eye, we'll be shitting it, because it's a new thing. We've been rehearsing the live set for the last two weeks though and it's sounding great. We're a new band, we're not going to get above ourselves and start thinking we can play stadiums and arenas, we don't want to jump the gun, we want to go out and do small gigs, get back into that vibe then do another album, and take it gradually, stay in the moment of being a new band.”
thank you Louise :)

Pretty Green opening in Glasgow + interview video

Friday, January 07, 2011

GLASGOW - Liam Gallagher, wearing a black trilby hat, khaki parka and drainpipe trousers, was surrounded by photographers and fans as he visited a new clothing store in Glasgow today. The menswear label, which is heavily-influenced by 60s art, music and culture, counts footballers Joe Cole and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, boxer Amir Khan and Kasabian’s lead singer Tom Meighan among its fans.
The Beady Eye singer looked frustrated with the camerman as he arrived at the Pretty Green shop for the first time since it opened last month.
It is the third outlet for Gallagher’s side-project, and is his first in Scotland.
A large crowd greeted the singer outside the store, with one fan holding a portrait of Gallagher and his brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel.
In an interview earlier this week, Gallagher revealed that Pretty Green would soon offer capes and leopard print blazers.
Liam was pleased to be back in Glasgow, a city he has fond memories of, as his old band Oasis was discovered in Glasgow pub King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut. He had returned north of the border to open a new clothing store Pretty Green.
He said: “It’s good to be back in Glasgow. We got signed here, that’s where it all began for us.”
The store is the first of its kind in Scotland and like it's sister stores in London and Manchester it sells only Liam’s Pretty Green clothing range. The store which is on Ingram Street has proven popular with customers since its opening in December 2010.
When asked why he opened a store in Scotland Liam said: “Why not? I like Scotland in general, people like the same things football, music, they like a little drink or two. So why not?”
The line is designed by Liam and respected menswear designer Nick Holland. The name Pretty Green comes from a Jam song written by influential singer Paul Weller. The range itself is inspired greatly by 60’s culture and the mod movement of that era.
Liam said: “[The clothing line is] 60s, mod influenced. It’s smart but not fairy smart, it’s worn in smart. Me and Nick Holland design it, he comes round my house and we sit there and go through the wardrobe and see what’s had its time. We design in that kind of style.”
Many fans turned out to see Liam at his new store where he chatted and signed autographs for them. Liam was quick to point out his clothing line is for everyone and that he will keep going as long as people want to wear his designs.
He said: “If people don’t like it we close it and move on, if people like it we stay here. I’m not gonna ram it down people’s throats, if people like it we’ll carry on.”
Liam started a new band Beady Eye with his ex-Oasis band mates, they have been working on a new album called Different Gear, Still Speeding and have an upcoming tour. The tour starts with two nights in Glasgow at The Barrowlands.
Liam said: “The album is done, all the videos are done and we start rehearsing next week for a month. I am excited about it it’s nice to get back in the ring, that’s where I belong singing songs. The gigs are on sale, we start at The Barrowlands, we’re excited, we’re loud and it’s rocking”.
Liam doesn’t think the fans have too much to worry about with the style of music they have been playing he doesn’t think it is that different from what they created with Oasis. There are obviously some changes but Liam is really happy with what Beady Eye has become.
He said: “I don’t think it’s that different. It’s a little bit different but I wouldn’t say it’s that different. I’m still singing the way I sing, the band are still playing guitars the way they do. We’re still having it”.
It’s for the fans to decide though in Liam’s opinion, he pointed out: “It’s not for me it’s for other people to say if it’s different or not. It feels different obviously because Noel is not there but it doesn’t feel that different to me when the microphone is in front of me I’m ready to go.”
When asked if brother Noel wears his clothes he joked “probably”. He and his brother are not in touch at the moment, he said: “I’ve not spoken to him but I’m sure he’s happy in his little world. He does his thing and I do mine.”

Liam has revealed that he's a big fan of Buckfast - after trying the tonic wine when he was NINE.
"I love Glasgow, it's great. When I was nine, I tried Buckfast for the first time. I still love it now."
He made a beeline for disabled Harry Johnston, who just happened to be passing, and gave him a big hug.
Thrilled Harry said: "He cuddled me and said, 'All right, wee man?' I was flabbergasted."
Liam's notorious for his boozefuelled tantrums and rows with brother Noel but fans said he was in great spirits yesterday.
Plasterer Martin Rush, 30, of Cumbernauld, said: "Liam was on really good form."
Martin's girlfriend Kim, 28, of Glasgow, added: "He was full of smiles, not like you usually see in the papers. I got cuddles and kisses from him."
Paul Hannah, 24, from Coatbridge, and his girlfriend Cara Urban, 19, met Gallagher.
Cara said: “Paul told him that I’m having a baby this Sunday and he congratulated us and gave us a cuddle: I’m overwhelmed by it.”
Paul added: “I can’t believe it. That’s made my year – and the baby will make it even better. He’s my hero.”
The 4080 square foot shop, housed in the former GPO building has a six-month lease.
Store manager Raymond Meade said: “It’s been hectic, we didn’t expect the turnout that we got. Liam was in good spirits and on good form – he loved the shop. He said he’s looking forward to seeing us again.”

Liam to design capes and everything

Thursday, January 06, 2011

LONDON - Liam Gallagher plans to include capes in his next clothing range for his label Pretty Green.
The former Oasis frontman launched his debut fashion line Pretty Green in 2009 and while it initially included "timeless, classic clobber" such as parkas, blazers, shirts and desert boots, Liam is keen to expand it this year.
He said of the label: "We're only gonna get better. We're gonna be the boys for the next 20 years or however long we want to go for. But it's not all about parkas and desert boots, I don't know where we gonna go, but we'll go there. But this year we're doing capes and everything - the lot. "
Liam also revealed he is determined for Pretty Green to become an international success while staying true to its roots.
He said in a video interview: "I've always loved clothes - music and clothes go hand-in-hand. I got the opportunity to do this, I don't remember when or how, but I'm gonna give it my all as I do everything. I want to make it really big and take it all around the world and for it to go everywhere, but at the same time I want it to remain underground and that'll be the hardest thing to do. Because you want to give people what they want but at the same time you've got to be selfish."

Pretty Green team preparing clothes for Liam's film

LONDON - Photo: Emily working at Pretty Green.
Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green is no ordinary celebrity brand.
Forget cheap fabrics and logo T-shirts, Pretty Green is making a name for itself as a credible menswear brand where the bottom line is always quality.
Since its launch in June 2009 the brand has gone from strength to strength, with sales steadily increasing despite the recession.
We decided to find out what's so special about Pretty Green, so we caught up with two of the brand's key people: Nick Holland, design director, and Dean West, global sales manager.

Read our Q&A with Nick and Dean for an inside view on the success story that is Pretty Green. Celebrity designers in the making, take note:

How would you sum up the Pretty Green brand?
DEAN: It's Liam Gallagher's contemporary British heritage brand which takes its influences directly from streetwear culture from the past.

How well do think it reflects Liam's personal style?
DEAN: It's very much his signature. It's got his DNA written all over it you can see him wearing absolutely every piece. The black label is much more at the pointy end of fashion and that reflects Liam at his most fashionable, and green label is very much him looking casual. There isn't a piece in the collection that he wouldn't wear himself.
NICK: What is great about Pretty Green is that it regularly references Liam’s iconic style without being controlled by it. The 1960s mod scene is a huge influence for the Green Label. The Black Label takes this look and translates it into a highly tailored product which is contemporary with a foot in the past but also in the present day. The Pretty Green customer likes to dress sharp, stylish and is not influenced by fashion trends, preferring classic, strong styles and high quality fabrics.

How involved is Liam in the design process?
NICK: Liam is involved in every stage of the process when it comes to the designing both the Green and Black Label Collections. It's a simple yes or no. It's in or it's out, if it's right it's in, if it's not it's out. You know exactly where you stand - Liam knows exactly what he wants and is very particular about what is put in the final collections - down to the minutest detail… Liam has a great eye for what will work and what will not.

What is Liam like to work with?
NICK: Liam is a pleasure to work with. He is punctual, funny and extremely passionate about Pretty Green, and is very decisive in what he wants from the end product, which helps greatly and saves time and money. We are starting to look into clothes for the film he is doing, The Longest Cocktail Party, which Pretty Green are providing the styling for. Liam knows what's right and wrong and the team of researchers we have onboard should make it a great project for Pretty Green to be involved with.

What's the secret of Pretty Green's success?
NICK: We aren't endorsed by a celebrity, Liam owns the company as the major shareholder so there is a difference, I believe. I also strongly believe it's down to a fantastic team involved with Pretty Green who are without doubt experts in their fields and highly driven to succeed which is critical to succeed.
DEAN: We've captured the hearts and minds of the nation and the boys in this country. Everywhere that sells it is flying it out. People are asking for it all the time. I think it just encapsulated the whole of that look that the British lads like to wear.

What's next for the brand?
NICK: This year we opened pop-up stores in Carnaby Street, Manchester and Glasgow and I know we are looking to expand into other cities in 2011. My department is Design, there is a whole team who strategise about where we are going next, but I do anticipate 2011/2012 being exciting times in Pretty Green.
DEAN: We've got a footwear collection coming out early 2011, we've got shades coming out and we've got more accessories coming.

So is there a chance Pretty Green will branch into womenswear? Nick told us: "We may release a capsule collection next year but currently focused on menswear."

Here's hoping…

Mod style for Beady Eye

Monday, January 03, 2011

MILAN - More about how to dress for a Beady Eye concert. Similar to Oasis fan Katy Perry :)
Jealous people and haters said Beady Eye are a band useful just to promote Liam's clothes. Nice idea...here we go, lol !

Tips to dress like a Mod.
In the sixties, mod boys dressed in suits, neat narrow trousers, and pointed shoes. Mod girls displayed a boyish image, wearing their hair short (fringe hairstyle as Oasis) to fit a unisex type of culture. So Pretty Green, being clothes for boys only, could be used by girls too :)
Be inspired by British youth fashion of the 1960s and interpret the look for today to dress like a Mod. Indulge in color, short skirts and dresses in wild patterns. Look for clothing that hit the United States during the British cultural invasion and has never completely gone home. Be sexy, young and futuristic (as Milan futurism :) as defined by Mod fashions.
Classic Mod’s include singer Ian Brown and Oasis group member Liam Gallagher who are both from Manchester and wear the Mod look perfectly.
Buy mod-related clothing items such as slim cut suits, a green vintage US Army fishtail parka. These can be bought on Pretty Green site of course, or also on eBay (my new profile is called "eBeadyEye" :) and even your local vintage or second hand store. Or your original military parka if you were a soldier as me :). Second hand always looks better than bought brand new. It has a story to tell and the worn in look is ideal for creating that Mod style.
But a parka for the concerts, being in March, could be too warm in Italy and Spain. So you could wear something lighter by Pretty Green.
Buy a skintight pair of drainpipe pants for a unisex Mod look. Drainpipe pants are tight from the waist to the ankle with a hipster or low-rise waist. Purchase “skinny jeans” from mainstream retailers to copy this Mod fashion.
Wear miniskirts, go-go boots and headbands. Choose fashion that screams youth and sex appeal-the foundations of the 1960s British fashion scene. Purchase go-go boots in a variety of colors from online and major fashion retailers.
Look for short, shift or A-line dresses with bold, geometric Mod patterns. Wear Winklepicker shoes for a high fashion touch. Find women’s Winklepicker shoes at select Mod retailers.
Finish your Mod look with scarves or jewelry inspired by modern art. Stay warm with a brightly colored pea coat or stay dry with a glossy rain trench coat. Another Mod accessory is tights and half boots. Remember your sun glasses (RayBan from Milan as Liam's), which need to be large, round and plastic.
Apply heavy eyeliner and false eyelashes for a fashionable Mod look. Use white eye shadow or lipstick. Adapt the make-up trends of the early 1960s for today.
You can also buy a Milano Lambretta or Vespa motor scooter. Lambretta is the iconic Italian brand of the Mod culture. The nationalist red-blue-white logo is recognizable all over the world.
Listen to mod-related music such as modern jazz, R&B, soul, 1960s mod bands like The Who and The Small Faces, or mod revival bands like The Jam and Secret Affair.
